Hannah's Wings

Hannah's Wings

Hannah Lassette Ahlers had an impact on everyone she met.

She was a loving mother, daughter, the “cool mom” to several of her friends’ children, and a devout follower of Christ.

That is how some of the hundreds who gathered Friday, Oct. 13, at Harvest Christian Fellowship in Riverside remembered Ahlers, who was killed in the mass shooting Oct. 1 at the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas.

“Hannah wasn’t just a friend — she was family,” said longtime friend Chris Hopkins.

“She was never one to pass judgment and her smile still lights up a room. I’m going to miss our random phone calls, all of our trips as a family. And those trips are not going to stop (because) Hannah will always be with us.”

Photos of Ahlers, 34, of Beaumont, with her family and friends greeted hundreds of mourners Friday. Her white-and-Tiffany blue casket, adorned with a flower and a framed American flag, sat in front of the church’s main stage.

A photo of a smiling Ahlers was projected on three screens inside the church. Hopkins looked at it often as he spoke.

“She’s my angel now,” he said.

Six years later, Brian Ahlers asked his future bride out on a date.

It wasn’t too long after that he went off to school “to follow in his father’s footsteps” at Redlands Jewelers, Pendleton said, that Brian Ahlers realized he had “one gem in his life he simply couldn’t live without.”

Brian Ahlers proposed at a Fourth of July celebration, and six months later on Jan. 21, married 2001, the couple “stood before family and God and said ‘I do.'” Hannah Ahlers was just 17.

“It’s hard to believe that 17 years later she would take her last breath on Earth. But you know, she was proud of those 17 years,” Pendleton said.

Pendleton recalled the couple’s early years of married life briefly, sharing a story about Hannah Ahlers purchasing furniture for the couple’s new home on a whim.

Her husband, Pendleton said, came home “shocked” and called the furniture store to have the items returned.

“It was one of the very few times I saw Brian say no to Hannah,” Pendleton said with a chuckle.
